青山周平——打破常规

Breaking the conventional with Architect Shuhei Aoyama

Events — Airbnb Design Editorial

The hutongs of Beijing may seem like an unusual source of inspiration, but Japanese architect Shuhei Aoyama’s career has been anything but ordinary. Shuhei graduated from the University of Tokyo in 2005, then spent the next 10 years immersing himself in, and drawing creativity from, Chinese culture. He quickly rose to fame among the Chinese community when he appeared on Dream Home—a popular home makeover show—in 2015.

His time spent in hutongs lent a significant perspective shift that empowered him to challenge the traditional concept of home—a topic he’ll dive deeper into at the Beijing debut of Airbnb Design—Talks. Shuhei aims to break the stereotypes of home by exploring the infinite possibilities of shared living spaces. His designs go against what’s expected—the traditional, sprawling family home—by minimizing a home’s footprint and including shared spaces, such as shops and parks, as an extension of home.

In a gallery setting featuring immersive storytelling through film and space design, Shuhei and Vivian Wang (Head of Design, China) will discuss finding inspiration in unexpected spaces and pushing the lines of where home begins and ends.
