Design poster for Nelly Ben Hayoun's Airbnb Design Talk. The title reads, "Designing the Impossible."Nelly Ben Hayoun is an award winning French explorer, artist, and director who creates extreme experiences. As a manufacturer of the impossible, she’ll empower you to become an astronaut in your living room while dark energy is being created in your kitchen sink and a volcano erupts on your couch.

She designs experiences at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute (SETI), is a Wired Innovation Fellow, Advisor to the United Nations Virtual Reality Lab, and Head of Experiences at We Transfer.  She works with leading scientists to devise subversive events and bring chaos and critical thinking amongst members of the public and institutions. Her work has been exhibited at The MOMA in NYC, the V&A Museum, and the National Museum of China.

In her talk, Ben Hayoun will create a space for debate and provocation around the sociological, political, and critical impact of new technologies in space exploration and beyond. She’ll demonstrate how community, the human condition, and countercultures can prevail over technology. Ben Hayoun will also take us behind the scenes of her projects including: The International Space Orchestra, Disaster Playground, and her next expedition involving vikings, underwater exploration, and outer space colonization.

RVSP here to to join Ben Hayoun—the Willy Wonka of design, art and science—at Airbnb San Francisco in an argument for the importance of creative passion, inspiration and poetics in communities on October 4th.
